Bonnie Brae is located in the southeastern metropolitan area of Denver. Platted in 1923, the charming neighborhood of Bonnie Brae was designed to resemble a Scottish village with it's curving streets, a circular “central” park, a winding boulevard surrounded by mature trees and landscaping.
Some of the first houses in the neighborhood were built in the 1920s on land that had been granted to the Kansas Pacific Railroad way back in the 1870s. As the railroad eventually sold to farmers, it later became part of south Denver and continued to grow throughout most of the 1930s and into the 1940s and 1950s. Today, the Bonnie Brae community has an merged its historic homes with some newly built custom homes along with homes that have some upgrading and/or new additions. Homes for sale in Bonnie Brae range in styles from charming little Cape Cod homes to one-story brick ranches to larger two-story brick and/or frame homes and English Tudors. Yes, the Bonnie Brae location is very sought after because Bonnie Brae real estate offers a great combination of mixing some of Denver’s best of the old and new. For years, Bonnie Brae home prices have remained solid mainly due to its charming neighborhood, proximity and desirability of living near the center of a major metropolitan city, fantastic parks, upscale shopping, and local restaurants. As a matter of fact, the Bonnie Brae Tavern has been family owned and operated since 1934 and the Dolly Madison Dairy opened in the 1940s! Even today, most of the shops are within a nice walking distance (located between Exposition Avenue and Ohio Street).
Late in the summer, Bonnie Brae has an annual picnic at the Bonnie Brae Park—a perfect opportunity for neighbors to congregate and mingle. The annual picnic is also a venue for the all-neighborhood meeting, which includes elections for the Bonnie Brae Neighborhood Association Board. Although the board meets on a regular basis, it also sends out quarterly newsletters to its residents. Mostly, the association’s mission is to provide a connection with the city to assist in community development and facilitate any efforts to improve the quality of life for residents in Bonnie Brae.
